Voor schoonmama wilde ik graag de bruidsshawl breien uit Handwerken zonder Grenzen. Ik kocht 3 bollen Rowan Kid Silk Haze in de kleur Heavenly (de kleur op de website is nogal overdreven, de kleur hiernaast klopt beter). Alleen de naam bleek hemels. De wol was duur, ik vond het vervelend breien en mijn relatie met het patroon liep keer op keer stuk. Ik ben minstens tien keer opnieuw begonnen. Maar ‘Astrid knits her way out’ bezorgde mij ook een uitweg. Want zie, met haar vereenvoudigde versie lukte het wel! Dit keer haal ik oktober, met shawl!

For my MIL I wanted to knit the wedding shawl from the Dutch Magazine ’Handwerken zonder Grenzen’. I bought 3 skeins Rowan Kid Silk Haze in the colour Heavenly (the colour on their website is rather overdone, my photo matches better). But only the name was heavenly. It was expensive (very), I didn’t like the way it knitted and my relationship with the pattern failed time after time.  I must have started it about ten times. But ‘Astrid knits her way out’ knitted me out too. ’Cause, you see, with her simple pattern even I could knit it.  This time I will go to the birthday with shawl.

Ben er wel trots op… 1e keer verven en dan krijg je ook nog precies de kleur die je wilt. Ik denk niet dat de foto het goed laat zien. Op mijn beeldscherm ziet het er toch wat bruinig uit en nee, het is het zachte groen dat lindebomen hebben in de lente. Vandaar. Lentelinde.

I’m rather proud. First time dying and you get the colour you want. I don’t think the picture does the colour right. On my screen it is somewhat brownish and no, it is the soft green of limetrees (linde) in spring (lente). Therefore. Lentelinde.

De vierde vrijdag van de maand is meestal verfdag in Atelier Tissien. Dat wilden wij proberen. Even voor de goede orde: een overwinning voor mij met mijn diep gewortelde afkeer van natte wol. Ineke - Tissien - gaf ons eerst een rondleiding in haar atelier en winkel (oh en ah en zoveel kleuren, een paradijs). Daarna maakte zij ons met eindeloos geduld in een lange ochtend minstens zes verftechnieken wijzer. Ik creëerde 2 strengen lindengroen, waar ik helemaal verrukt van ben. Bovendien experimenteerden we met de kleuren van een Hollandse ochtend-of avondlucht, je weet wel, met zalmoranje, wat paars, wat blauwgrijs… Dat was nog niet zo makkelijk. De resultaten komen over een paar dagen. Dat verven ga ik beslist vaker doen, al vind ik natte wol nog steeds yek. Het kleurenspel is een uitdaging en het was ook nog beregezellig.

The 4th Friday of the month often is dyeday in Atelier Tissien. That’s what we wanted to try. And I remind you that’s a triumph for me with my deeply rooted aversion to wet wool. Ineke - Tissien - took us round in her atelier and shop (oh and ah and so many colours, a paradise). In one long morning she tought us with infinite patience at least six dying techniques.  I created 2 hanks lime(tree) green, with which I’m overjoyed. And we experimented with the colours of a Dutch morning or evening sky, you know (no, you don’t probably), with soft orange, a bit purple, some blueish grey … That one didn’t come easy. I will show the results in a few days. I’ll certainly do it again, though I think wet wool still yek. This playing with colours is a great challenge and highly entertaining. 

‘t Is een wat raar sokje aan het worden…Die ‘Opal mit Bambus’ breit niet echt lekker en pluist verschrikkelijk. Bovendien vind ik deze 1926 een vage kleur. Had moeten lijken op de kleur van het voorbeeld. Echt niet. Het patroon is fantastisch. De ontwerpster Darlene Thompson heeft het zo zorgvuldig uitgeschreven dat je de sok ongeveer slapend kunt breien. Ik brei met Pony Pearl naaldjes… ook al niet lekker. Het binnenste van één is gebroken. Maar ach, sokken bijna af. En ze zitten perfect. Dat nu weer wel. 

The sock is becoming a bit weird. That ‘Opal mit Bambus’  is not a fine knit and is pilling. This colour 1926 doesn’t work out for me either. I wanted it to resemble the original. It doesn’t. The pattern is great! Designer Darlene Thompson wrote it out so carefully that you can knit this while asleep. I knit with Pony Pearl needles … not a success either. One of the innerneedles is already broken. But, the socks are almost finished. And they fit perfectly. Who would have thought that?

Deze foto had ik alvast op Flickr gezet en die had de aandacht getrokken. Het is de Bamboo Walking Sock van Panda. De wol komt uit Duitsland. Het is Unikat van de maand juli - Schwarze Rose. De naam riep bij mij een romantisch beeld op, maar uiteindelijk is het maar een operette schreeuwertje!
José vroeg naar de steek: draad omslaan, twee steken recht breien, draad over die twee steken halen. Geeft een leuk beeld, maar ‘t is een wat bobbelig sokje aan het worden. Wel bijna af. Om op te sturen naar Tausendschön. Misschien win ik wel de Unikat van augustus.

I put this photo earlier on Flickr and it already got attention. It is the Bamboo Walking Sock by Panda. The yarn is from Germany. It is the Unikat of July  - Schwarze Rose (Black Rose). The name gave me a romantic idea, but the final result is a little operetta loudmouth!
José asked about the pattern: yo, k2, pass yarn over 2 knit stitches. It looks nice, but it is  a somewhat bumpy sock. Almost finished. To send to Tausendschön. Maybe I win the  August Unikat.
