(This one is in Dutch, because this was a very Dutch weekend)

We (zij ook) hadden ons er al weken op verheugd: een wolweekend in Ameland. Ik had wat stiekeme dromen: zou het nu lukken tussen mij en spinnen? Met een spintol was het geen succes vanwege armen die niet meer zo draaien als zou moeten. We zien wel.

Op weg. Voorspoedige reis. Te laat aankomen en toch nog de boot halen is natuurlijk subliem. Zo in een taxi rollen en bij de Stayokay belanden. Breek me de bek niet open over dit genre accommodatie: ondoorzichtig prijsbeleid en weinig waar voor je geld. Maar het wolweekend gezelschap maakte alles goed. Een heerlijke variatie in leeftijd en een hoge mate van Hollandse nuchterheid.

De doendingen werden aangevoerd door Alet van Textielwerk. Helemaal uit Zeeland komen aanrijden met een tot aan de nok toe gevulde auto.

Meteen ’s avonds na het eten aan de slag. Vilt verven. Dat greep me nog niet meteen. Er moesten direct zwaarwegende keuzen worden gemaakt. Koele of warme kleuren. Weg van het eeuwige groen koos ik voor koel. Het was goed om dat te proberen. Plannen voor de volgende dag. Strengen wol verven.

Dat verven van zo’n streng zette me aan het nadenken over wat ik nou mooi vond om mee te breien. En zo zocht ik naar kleuren die dicht bij elkaar lagen en niet streperig zouden werken. Grappig genoeg waren de eerste kleuren die ik vond koraalrode kleuren. Met wat grijs. Ik ben nog steeds beduusd van het mooie resultaat. De andere twee dingen waren minder mooi. Maar wel veel van geleerd.

Wol verven, ja, daar wil ik op mijn eigen manier wel mee doorgaan. Het spinnen werd niets. Ook niet op zo’n apparaat. Dat moeten anderen maar voor me doen. Ik merk dat ik het wel leuk vind om in de buurt te zijn van vrouwen die dat doen. Er is namelijk veel liefde voor het materiaal en veel kennis. Het geluid van de draaiende wielen is bovendien rustgevend om bij te breien. En ach, je kunt het toch niet alle twee tegelijk doen. Verder heb ik niet veel gedaan het weekend, want ik worstelde met een griep die me bij de keel greep. Dat is minder leuke napret die nu al een paar dagen duurt.

Maar Alet en Judith: het was een topweekend. Niet in het minst door Agatha, Anna, Janna, Marian, Monique, Myren, Nellie en Ymke, natuurlijk ook Froukje. En ik hoop op Ravelry nog veel van de producten te zien.

It’s Handwerkbeurs in Rotterdam, not two but three days. Not in ‘De Van Nellefabriek’ but in Ahoy. I have not a real socktable (will do so again in february 2010 in Zwolle) but I joined the knitting café. We now are the stand with the longest name: the Dutch Knitters Sock Knitting Café. I was there for two days now and to be honest, I love every minute of it. I met some famous Dutch Knitters who preferred to stay anonymous (see photo). I bought Jo Ann’s and Marlies’ new sock knitting book (toe up!). Sas Knits it Again and HolyWoly asked me to mind their shop (if you do so, watch out, Malabrigo will be thrown at you!). I learned things, to be precise that you can - so to speak - kill your yarn in the dying process. I finished things. See this cute Little Vintage Charlis.

While chatting, I knit. My Gentleman’s socks with a lozenge pattern progress. I use yarn from Das Schneeschaf. Beautiful yarn! It’s about 3 years old … but will it be enough?

My Nancy Bush Mystery socks are finished. My inspiration isn’t finished at all, but time has its limits.

While knitting I chat. I chatted with my namesake Yvon, with Ballee, with the Dutch Knitters, with Fiona, with Brent, with Nelleke, with Corrie, with Juul, with…. Together with DutchJan I looked at the quilts. I was extremely touched by Hanne Capel. That was really artwork with textile. Most of the other works was just patchwork.

And now? School is finished for a week. And I finished this evening with a glass of Genépy and the beautiful tormented last aria of Madame Butterfly (and in the distance I hear Turandot). In this autumn holiday for a week I have to go to school two days, go to the hairdresser, my gym, ballet, finish socks, do the information desk for the National Ballet, write an article, prepare my lessons, knit, of course knit, go to SnB central and North, have a meeting with my best friend, read books, read logs and relax. Relax. Relax and knit. When???  Help. But tomorrow I will enjoy the third day of the Fair. With all my heart. Before life gets tough again.

There’s knitting too. I started these on the way to Switzerland in the car. Travel project. Knitted while hiking and finished them today, because I bought a new skein of JaWoll Silk for Mart. Finally he wants knitted socks. Yes, sometimes it is here very, very cold and I always have very, very warm feet, because of my self knit socks. That makes jealous. Besides the 4 sport shops in the village of Pontresina, there is a little yarn shop (with lots of other nice things). I bought a ‘Knauel’ of Jawoll Silk and started tonight. In the Knauel/skein I found a little bobbin with reinforcement yarn in the same colours. Cool!

Thank you for all your wishes on my recovery… it helped! Once recovered I started knitting a hat for Ger. Actually he is the one who really takes care of this weblog. I only do photos and text. Unfortunately he also got the flu, so the hat had to be send. Ger? Did you receive it? Does it fit? Do you like it???? Getting nervous…

edit: Of course it arrived safe and sound and keeps his ears warm.

It’s knitted with Cascade 220 which I bought at Penelope Craft (they have a great pre order offer on the moment) and I found the pattern via Ravelry (of course). It’s a simple knit, and the decreases make the show.

I joined a swap once again: the mystery theme swap. I got a nice box from the States with Italian food and beautiful yarn. But that is not the reason I mention it. For once I want to pay attention to what I send to my pal. Look at this nice little kit. I bought it at HolyWoly. It was so carefully packed, with fine yarn, beautiful needles, etc. The perfect gift for a knitting friend or for yourself! Why not be your own Valentine?

And: are we going to meet each other on the Zwolle Handwerkbeurs (Craft fair)? Of course there will be the Dutch Knitting Café. But this time the Cafe will have kindred neighbours: a ‘Sock Table’ dedicated to the fine art of Sock knitting. Come by and knit  your first little sock (sponsored by Wolhalla) or learn to knit two socks at once or meet Dutch designers of the Yahoo Sokkengroep. And of course, you can meet me: I’ll be there three days, ’cause I invented and organized the Sock Table. Hope to see you there.

Kijk! Tudora… bijzonder praktisch in een jas met een hoge sluiting. Gemaakt van Austermann Lava, ooit op een beurs gekocht bij Krea Hobby uit Meppel. Dat achterhaalde zij op mijn hartekreet naar meer Austermann Lava. Want ik had wel genoeg voor mijn Tudora, maar ik wil ook zo graag handschoentjes erbij met een lang polsstuk. Er ontspon zich een ware detective via Ravelry (helaas alleen te openen voor Ravelrianen) en het gevolg is dat ik dadelijk meer dan genoeg heb voor een spetterend wintersetje. Hannah bedankt! En die Tudora is hartstikke leuk om te breien.

Look! Tudora… very comfortable in a coat with a high fastening. Made from Austermann Lava, once bought on a fair at Krea Hobby from Meppel. It was she who retrieved this as a result of my cri de coeur for more Austermann Lava. I had enough yarn for my Tudora, but I loved to make mitts with it. We had a real detective via Ravelry (unfortunately only to open for Ravelrians) and the result is that I will have soon enough Austermann Lava for a stylish winterset. Thanks Hannah! And that Tudora is a great knit!
