This has been my backyard for 2 weeks and it was good. Especially because they had decided to silence the churchbells after November 11th. We lived here almost the life of the farmers of Onoz, a little village in the French Jura. We did have a well equiped kitchen, and because we for once had time enough we made the most delicious dishes. And… we hiked.
We made wonderful trips à pied and with the car. We saw quite a lot of the Jura. On the whole the weather was good, sometimes even lovely with sun and some snow. We only had two days of rain. Not bad at the end of the year.
I even found some great yarn: Phildar Soie that comes in shades of grey. Very difficult to photograph and very subtle. Even the colours on the online shop aren’t correct. It’s beautifully soft and I plan to make the Raha Scarf from Knitted Lace of Estonia by Nancy Bush.
I frogged a lot. Firm decisions. There is too little knitting time to go for imperfect projects or otherwise things that aren’t the way you like it. I knitted a lot on Mart’s Sweater, which is coming out fine. It’s from pure Alpaca and he was very amazed to see the animals when they made the front page of the papers.
I finished one of these Mad Weaver Socks (Ravelry link). They look very complicated but just do as the pattern says and it’s a piece of cake. Only thing is that they are so very small, but they will be just right for my little cousin. The yarn is great. It’s hand dyed Trekking, colour Trinidad, and it’s wonderful to knit with. It feels like it will be great socks to wear.
I finished these (Ravelry link). This was knitting with handicaps. One of my harmony needles broke on them and though those needles come in six because you never know, I couldn’t find that sixth needle. I really should have used a bigger size needles than 2.5 (european) for this yarn from Gerda’s Wolwereld. They don’t feel at all like a nice wear, but surprise, surprise, they are great on the feet and, thanks to the pattern, are a great fit too.
Si, we said yes! It was a wonderful day. It almost didn’t rain and there were a lot of people. I felt almost famous. The wedding ceremony was as we wanted it: a laugh, a small tear and fast. And though the Wim T. Schippers Chamber is now about 21 years old there were still people who didn’t know it has a merry go round. A marry go round in this case. This was fun!
We had a lovely informal afternoon party at Open. The Wedding Cake was beautiful and the one little bite I had tasted deliciously. Well, we will have our own party later at De Konditorei of De Taart van mijn Tante. De Prosecco was sparkling gold. The company was merry and gay!
And then there was this surprise. This unbelievably touching and wonderful surprise. 62 knitters created a blanket for me. Yvon Storm in the Attic dyed the softest Blue Faced Leicester + Alpaca in the most beautiful colour green you ever saw. It’s like a fresh mountain meadow in spring. Thank you, dear namesake, you did a great job. Froukje, Lies & Emile did the organising and kept the secret awfully secret. It was great. Thank you all knitters… you all did a great job. I was so so moved…
You can see it for yourself on YouTube. Thank you all…again.
Next day we left for Paris. We were so tired. The most exciting thing we did was reading in the Parc du Luxembourg and buying some music and - very French - an ‘Agenda de l’Enseignant’.
We are back, I have been working now since Monday and the newly weds have temporarely been separated: DH (lol) is in Germany, I think. So there finally was some time to blog. And to knit. Which is what I’ll do tonight. Finish things. For example. To blog more.
Gaan we koken?
Recipes? Well no, for the art of cooking you have to be at hers. But for culinary extravagances, good food and Paris you have to go to the cinema. To Ratatouille to be precise. Yes, swift dialogues, fast fun, a touch of commitment and everybody can cook. Even the French love the film! Look for yourself op Youtube!
Volgende keer in Parijs.
Not a very sharp photo, but so what? This is Julien Clerc, May 16th 2007 on the stage of Carré taken from row 3, my seat. It was a good show. It was fun. Clerc is a born artist (which is no surprise as he performs since 1968) and he carried us along full speed through old and new songs. He was very much amused by the audience, which was filmed: the 50 years or older girls seem to forget themselves completely and lay unashamedly at his feet. Wil be shown on his blog. I’m not made from groupiematerial and enjoyed the whole show from my seat. Must say: I was charmed. Next time in Paris.
Zucht. Het was zo’n droompje. Naar een concert van Julien Clerc.
May 15th he gives one concert in Carré. The first in 8 years! And I? I discovered it one day too late. Asking partner to join cost another day. I didn’t phone immediately when I couldn’t find the buy-online-tickets-button. Tickets selling started on the 17th and Sunday 18th there were no more tickets. Sigh. There goes my little dream going to a concert of Julien Clerc.
